On the final day of a week spent skinning and skiing the country east of Lyngen, the wind that has owned the sky for seventy-two hours finally drops, and we leave the lodge before the cloud has fully lifted.
The light I came for arrives low and from the south, raking across the ice that the wind has scoured and the new snow that has settled around it. I make this photograph from above, looking back at the two partners I crossed the ice with.
It is the picture I came back wanting to have made.
